Backhoe Loader: Get the Low Down on Alternator Parts

BLUF: Order the backhoe loader’s impeller fan with NSN 4140-01-562-3619 (PN 221425R1) and the pulley parts kit with NSN 2920-01-549-3426 (PN 1307188).

Mechanics, you’ll come up short if you order the backhoe loader’s alternator shown as Item 1 (with down parts 2-7) in Fig 39 of TM 5-2420-231-24 (Jun 13). That’s because the alternator doesn’t come with a pulley or impeller fan. Ordering Item 1, NSN 2920-01-346-6293, only brings Items 1-3, 6 and 7.

You’ll have to order the pulley and impeller fan separately. Note that the impeller fan’s NSN and part number have changed, too. It now comes with NSN 4140-01-562-3619 (PN 221425R1).

And here’s another note: In order to get the pulley’s retaining nut (Item 2), you’ll have to order a parts kit that comes with NSN 2920-01-549-3426 (PN 1307188).

Make a note until the TM is updated.
