HMMWV: Does Missing Spare Tire Deadline Vehicle?

BLUF: Missing the spare tire doesn’t make your HMMWV not mission capable (NMC).

Dear Half-Mast,
 
Recently, a question came up in the motor pool about the HMMWV. Does a missing spare tire deadline the HMMWV? Everyone in earshot chimed in and we’re split between yes and no.
 
Can you clarify this for us?

Dear Sergeant,
 
According to TACOM, a missing spare tire doesn’t make the HMMWV not mission capable (NMC). The commander can deem it a safety deadline if the mission dictates, but there’s not a requirement for a spare tire.
 
It’s important to note that if you do have a spare tire for your HMMWV, it must match the tires that are mounted on that vehicle.
