BEB: Handle Engine Access Door With Care

BLUF:  Close the access door while holding on to the door handle. Don’t let the door slam shut!

Operators, it’s easy to get in the habit of letting the bridge boat’s engine access door slam shut after you’ve done checks and services. Don’t let that happen.

Grasp the handle

The weight of the door will cause unnecessary damage to the door’s shock absorber. Over time, the shock absorbers will wear out prematurely.
 
Hold the handle while closing the door
Hold the handle while closing the door
 
Always hold on to the door’s handle and slowly close the door shut.
