PS Magazine’s
I Own This campaign is designed to recognize Warfighters of all services who exemplify the highest standards of care for their assigned vehicles and equipment and contribute in meaningful ways to their unit's overall maintenance and supply posture. In short, they live and breathe readiness.
For July, one Warfighter was nominated for this program: Cpl. Jose Retes, US Marine Corps.
Spotlight Profile
Cpl. Jose Retes
USMC/Active
Maintenance Management Specialist
Weapons & Field Training BN, MCRD San Diego, Edison Range
Nominated by: CW2 Shawn M. Daley
How you came to know/observe the nominee's actions? Cpl. Retes joined the unit almost two years ago. Before his arrival, his billet was gapped and sorely neglected. Once he joined the unit and gained his bearings, he took the unit from “zero to hero” through his dedication to the job and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure unit success.
Why does this individual deserve recognition? Cpl. Retes has gone outside of his job specialty to ensure recruits are trained and the unit accomplishes its mission in compliance with the applicable rules and regulations. He has mentored and guided other junior Marines in all matters of maintenance management.
Additional Comments: The picture of Cpl. Retes above shows him beside a water trailer (or water "bull"). Before his arrival, the it sat in the lot for a prolonged time and was in bad shape. He assessed it was beyond repair but still needed to be prepped for disposal. He ensured all applicable procedures were followed to properly dispose of the water trailer and coordinate for its replacement, helping to ensure optimal unit readiness.
