Black Hawk: Alternate Overhead Cockpit Windows Approved

Pilots, the Utility Helicopters Project Office received Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED) approval to use tinted overhead “greenhouse” windows on all H-60 Black Hawk helicopters. The tinted windows are an alternative to the clear windows. And using the tinted windows means things are about to get a whole lot cooler!

The current left-hand window is NSN 1560-01-550-2632 (PN 700-21113-042), and the current right-hand window is NSN 1560-01-298-1557 (PN 70206-01001-106).

The new left-hand (LH) tinted window comes with NSN 1560-01-495-5522 (PN 70206-01001-111). The new right-hand (RH) tinted window comes with NSN 1560-01-495-5529 (PN 70206-01001-110).

The tinted windows reduce the amount of light that gets through to the cockpit by 30 percent. That lowers cockpit temperatures. Install the windows using the instructions in both TM 1-1520-280-23&P and TM 1-1520-237-23&P.

Make a note that the free air thermometer holes aren’t located in the same location as the H-60A/L windows. On the H-60M LHS configuration, they’re located 9.12 inches outboard of the inside edge of the window. This requires a longer bonding jumper, which you must order separately.

TM 1-1520-237-23&P (EM 0013, Jan 19) identifies the RH bonding strip, NSN 5999-01-498-2232, as Item 26 in Fig 2-72. Use NSN 5999-01-583-8085 for the LH. WP 1059 provides the installation procedure for the bonding jumpers.

TM 1-1520-280-23&P (Mar 20) identifies the bonding strips in Fig 08-10 as Item 8, NSN 5999-01-498-2232 (RH), and Item 9, NSN 5999-01-583-8085 (LH).  WP 100 provides the installation procedures for the bonding jumpers.

The H-60M left-hand window has an area painted aircraft green that masks the H-60M copilot’s auxiliary circuit breaker panel.
