HMMWV: Battery Disconnect Switch Optional

Army HMMWV

Dear Half Mast,

A lot of shops in my unit aren’t in favor of installing the battery disconnect switch for the M1165A1 HMMWV because it’s an accessory kit and not a mandatory item. Is there an MWO that authorizes using the switch?

SFC K.B.

Dear Sergeant,

Thanks for reaching out to PS Magazine. The short answer is no. To prevent battery drain, the battery disconnect switch is installed in new production HMMWVs.  However, there isn’t an MWO to install the battery disconnect switch kit and the kit is optional, so it’s up to units whether or not they want to install it.

The kit comes with NSN 6130-01-611-4219 and costs just under $500.
