HMMWV: Fuel Tank Straps and Bolts

Maintainers,

Does the spacing between the fuel tank straps on your HMMWVs have you scratching your head? If so, you’ve likely noticed differences between the spacing on your truck and what’s prescribed in TM 9-2320-387-13&P (Mar 14).

The TM says the fuel tank straps should be a ½ inch apart, but if they aren’t, don’t panic. It’s probably because the bolts required by TM 9-2320-387-13&P are slightly different sizes.  So just make sure there’s a space between the straps and that they aren’t touching.

Also, make sure the straps are flush with the fuel tank and the rubber strips aren’t doubled up.

TM Torque Error: TM 9-2320-387-13&P has a torque spec of 23-27 lb-ft (which is incorrect) for the fuel tank bolts. It should be 23-27 lb-in instead. Make a note of that until the TM is updated.
